LOCAL SPORTS: Outland Trophy Watch List includes BYU’s Mathews and Tuiloma


DALLAS - Two more players received preseason honors with offensive lineman Ryker Mathews and defensive lineman Travis Tuiloma earning spots on the 2015 Outland Trophy Watch List announced Friday, honoring the nation's top interior lineman. Mathews, the 6-foot-6, 320-pound America Fork product heads into his senior year with 33 games played. In 2014 he was part of a BYU offensive line that set up the highest-scoring Cougar team at 37.1 points per game since 2001. BYU's average was good for No. 15 nationally. Tuiloma was also named to the Nagurski Trophy Watch List Friday after accounting for 27 tackles and six tackles for loss in 2014. Both Mathews and Tuiloma earned 2015 Preseason Phil Steele All-Independent Second Team honors. READ MORE HERE.

LINDON – A 21-year-old Lindon man faces 21 charges of sexually abusing a teen over several months. Albert Paonessa, 21, was booked into the Utah County Jail on Thursday. READ MORE HERE.

LOCAL NEWS: UVU marks first approved drone flight

After 16 months of preparation, Utah Valley University’s School of Aviation Sciences has achieved its first flight of an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). Russ Hopkinson, Aviation Sciences director of safety, and the mission commander of the flight, worked for more than a year to get approval from the FAA for this flight to take place under a Certificate of Approval (COA). This COA will allow UVU to operate the drone in distinct public airspace. “Each flight must be planned just like a real aircraft carrying passengers,” Hopkinson said. READ MORE HERE.

LOCAL BUSINESS: Chex Mix filming commercials in Utah

WEATHER: Warm, dry days expected through the weekend

National Weather Service Forecasters are calling for a 20 percent chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms today, otherwise it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 86 and a low around 58 tonight. High temperatures will rise to about 90 through the weekend in Utah Valley with lows at night around 60. If you are headed up into the mountains you can expect isolated afternoon thunderstorms with highs in the 60s and lows at nights dropping into the 40s.
