WEATHER: Afternoon thunderstorms likely

The next few days will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon through Friday, according to National Weather Service forecasters. Today will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 86 and a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms. Lows for the next few days will be in the low 60s and high 50s.

LOCAL BUSINESS: Ultra-thin solar panel coming to Utah in August

SALT LAKE CITY -- A Seoul, South Korea company is bringing its Solar Paper product to the Outdoor Retail Show in Salt Lake City in August. The eco-friendly, ultra-thin solar panel is also seeking support on Kickstarter beginning today. Solar Paper is designed to accumulate electricity via a solar panel for use with smartphones and other mobile applications. The product is produced by YOLK out of South Korea. Solar Paper produces 5 watts using two ultra-thin solar panels. It can charge an iPhone 6 in about 2.5 hours in full sun. READ MORE HERE.

The Missionary Department is no longer requiring missionaries
serving in specified hot climates to purchase or wear suit coats.


LOCAL NEWS: Some missionaries leaving the jacket at home

PROVO -- The LDS Church is relaxing the dress standard for some Mormon missionaries by not requiring suit jackets in some missions. Elders called to missions in extremely hot regions of the world, such as some missions in Central America, Africa, the Philippines and others will no longer need to pack a suit jacket. Missionaries called to serve in these missions will be notified in their call packets, according to a statement by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. READ MORE HERE.

LOCAL NEWS: Wildlife officials receive praise for mountain lion release

PLEASANT GROVE: A mountain lion released last week has received an outpouring of thanks from wildlife lovers around the globe, according to a story in the Daily Herald. The mountain lion was discovered in a tree on Friday along the Murdock Canal Trail, but was tranquilized, relocated and released unharmed by Pleasant Grove Police and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. LOCAL SPORTS: BYU football signee OK after shooting

A BYU football hopeful has been released from a Texas hospital after he was shot in the arm during a pickup game of basketball on Sunday. According to news reports a suspect in the shooting has been arrested. Charles West, 18, has signed with BYU, but his future remains uncertain. He still faces charges after he was accused of raping a woman at knifepoint in February. READ MORE HERE.
