LOCAL WEATHER: Highs in the 90s, thunderstorms possible Sunday


The National Weather Service says high temperatures will be near 100 through the weekend, with the next chance of precipitation coming on Sunday when there is a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms. Lows for the next few days will remain in  the mid-60s at night.


LOCAL BUSINESS: Backcountry.com in Park City sells to TSG


TSG Consumer Partners LLC, a leading strategic equity investor in high-growth consumer brands, and Backcountry.com, LLC, one of the largest online specialty retailers of outdoor gear and apparel, announced today that TSG has acquired Backcountry from Liberty Interactive Corporation. LOCAL NEWS: Former Provo teacher pleads guilty in sexual assault


Donald Bills, 56, faces life in prison after pleading Thursday to sexual assault charges involving a high school student in 2013. LOCAL NEWS: Freedom Festival Parade to close streets Saturday

 

The Grand Parade will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, but University and Center streets in downtown Provo will be closed periodically beginning sometime after midnight tonight. READ MORE HERE.


LOCAL SPORTS: Owlz win Thursday; Fireworks to follow tonight


The Orem Owlz improved to 11-4 season Thursday night after beating the Grand Junction Rockies (8-7) for the second night in a row. All five of Grand Junction’s points came in the last two innings, but it wasn’t enough. Orem won 6-5. The two meet again at 7:15 p.m. tonight followed by a fireworks show. READ MORE HERE.



LOCAL SPORTS: Report: Cougar defense still needs work


The Daily Herald is reporting that BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall wants to see more from the Cougar defense. Mendenhall said he’s waiting to see at least the level of performance from last year, but has not seen that yet, according to the news reports. READ MORE HERE.
